Always in Service

I have nothing to do with the graphics & production, but I took this picture which was used for the FDNY EMS Week 2017 Poster. Neat! “This call itself was some of the strongest work that I’ve been involved in while working for the #FDNY. The communication and teamwork between all members on scene was seamless. I know I’m just a small part of a larger picture, but I feel so proud to have done what I did to help this person in his time of need,” says FDNY Rescue Paramedic Ari Nathanson, #Station8, who is one of five FDNY members featured in the photo on this year’s FDNY EMS Poster, which was taken during a real-life rescue in February 2016. Fire and EMS resources worked together to treat and extract Marcos Ramache Brava, who was severely injured while working in a water tower room that was suspended three stories high on the roof of a 26-story building. The FDNY members in the poster, and several additional units not pictured, treated, stabilized and transported the patient to a nearby hospital. Rescue Paramedic Jose Benitez, Station 8, says, “We assured him that he has in the best hands, and that we were not leaving without him. He was very thankful to know that if we were going out, he would be coming with us.” Firefighter Gregory P. Beach, #Rescue1, who worked alongside the Rescue Paramedics and Firefighters Ronneal Edwards and Brendan Lee of #Engine26, says, “Due to Mr. Brava’s injuries, he had to be immobilized, and the only way to remove him was to set up a complex rope operation and take him down horizontally on the stokes basket. Everything we do is extremely team-oriented and everyone knows their role.” Today, the members were reunited with Mr. Brava at the poster unveiling ceremony at FDNY Headquarters in Brooklyn. EMS Week posters are unveiled each year as part of the FDNY's annual #EMSWeek celebration. Each year's poster is intended to raise awareness about the life-saving work of the FDNY’s EMS members, and they are displayed in kiosks citywide.
